ThunderRidge High School School Advisory Council

 

The School Advisory Council meets on the first Wednesday of each month from 6:00-8:00 PM (August - May except January remove year). The meetings will be held in the Library Media Center (LMC).

The purpose of the SAC is to inform, encourage and provide opportunities for parent and community members to be involved in the planning and evaluation of the school’s instructional program and quality improvement processes.  By definition, the SAC is an advisory body.  Final decision-making authority rests with the principal or other person or group receiving the recommendation from the SAC (e.g., the Superintendent, District Advisory Committee (“DAC”) or Board of Education).

We would like to invite you to the School Advisory Council meetings listed below.  The meetings begin at 6:00 pm in the ThunderRidge library.  We hope to see you there!

Purpose of SAC:

The purpose of the School Advisory Council is to inform, to encourage, and provide opportunities for parents and community members to be involved in the planning and evaluation of the school's instructional program and quality improvements processes. By definition, the Student Advisory Council is an advisory body. Final authority of any decision rests with the principal.

Area of Responsibility:

*Adopt goals and objectives for he improvement of education in the school;
*Adopt a plan to improve the educational achievement in the school, focusing on methods of maximizing graduation rates from the District's secondary schools, and increasing the rating of the school's accreditation category;
*Make recommendations to the school's principal relative to the prioritization of the school budget;
*Discuss the means for determining whether decisions affecting the educational process are advancing or impeding student achievement;
*Report to students, parents, and the Board of Education on the educational performance of the school and provide data for the appraisal of the school's performance;
*Make recommendation to the school grants; and
*Discuss safety issues related to the school environment.

Examples of Areas Not Included:

*Personnel issues, including hiring or evaluation of staff;
*Individual student discipline issues; and
*Any issues dealing with a specific student, staff member, or parents.

Membership and Method of Selection:

Each Student Advisory Council should consist of a minimum of seven members, designated, appointed, or elected.
