ThunderRidge High School Overview

SCHOOLThunderRidge High School is a high performing school that continuously strives for excellence in academics, climate and culture, student connection, and extra-curricular involvement through activities and athletics. We believe that there are many characteristics that contribute to the success of a comprehensive and well-balanced high school experience.
We have 134 exceptional staff members who are committed to excellence and truly embody the
importance of providing an optimal educational environment for all students. To enhance educational
research and staff development, faculty members regularly participate in Professional Learning
Community groups to discuss and share researched based instructional best practices, as well as to
participate in monthly staff development activities and classes.
Academically, we provide a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum designed to meet the needs of
all students. The curriculum is directly aligned to meet the diverse needs of each student’s post-
secondary goal. In the core content areas (Math, Science, English, and Social Studies), Foreign
Language, and Art we offer basic, regular, Honors/Pre-AP, and Advanced Placement level courses.
We also offer 103 elective classes in Instrumental Music, Choral Music, Theatre, Art, Business,
Physical Education & Health, Foreign Language, Consumer & Family Studies, Technology, and in the
core content areas. Additionally, we have a variety of academic support systems in place, such as
Academic Access, Peer Tutoring Program, Adult Mentor Program, Adult Tutoring Program, and an
after-school NovaNet Credit Recovery Program to assist students as needed.
We are also very mindful of our climate and culture. We believe a positive and safe learning
environment is an essential characteristic in a high performing high school. We offer several high
profile programs to enhance the climate, culture, and student connectedness. One example is our
Seminar program, which provides the opportunity for students to connect and build relationships
throughout their high school experience. The Seminar philosophy is to bring students together as a
small group, bring them together as a class, and bring them together as a school community. We also
offer a variety of clubs and activities that support a positive climate and culture. Currently,
approximately 68% of our students are involved in extra-curricular activities.
Additionally, we have an outstanding Athletic program. Since 2000, our teams have won 14 state
championship titles in a variety of sports. Our student athletes not only excel in competition, but also
in the classroom. Many of our athletes continually maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or
higher and score exceptionally well on national academic exams.
We are very proud of the outstanding achievements of our students and the commitment and
dedication of the TRHS staff. In our pursuit toward excellence, we continually monitor and assess our
programs through continuous quality improvement efforts. At ThunderRidge High School, our goal is
to provide students with an exceptional educational experience that will prepare them to meet the
ever-changing needs of the future.
