The foundations
of Middle School Athletics are Participation, Skill Development,
Equity, and Student Involvement. The athletic program operates under
a NO CUT policy. A student will be able to play at his/her own skill
level. Scholastic eligibility, as set forth by the Douglas County
Middle School Athletic Guidelines, requires that all athletes must
meet weekly eligibility requirements. Please refer to the District
Eligibility Policy below.
PRACTICE
Practices will be held Monday through Thursday from 3:00 - 5:00 pm. Friday practices are at the discretion of the coaches and will be held from 3:00 - 4:00 pm.
Parents are responsible for picking up their student within 15 minutes after the conclusion of his/her game, practice or any other activity for which the student stays after school, whether voluntary or assigned. There will be no supervision of students not picked up in compliance with this rule, and parents assume all responsibility for their student. Douglas County School District/Sagewood Middle School assume no liability and have no responsibility for students not picked up within 15 minutes of the conclusion of any after school activity, whether voluntary or assigned.
Uniforms will be distributed for each sport, and are the responsibility of the student athlete. At the end of the season, the uniform is to be washed and returned promptly to the coach. Loss or failure to return the uniform within a week of the season end could result in being billed for the replacement cost of a uniform and inability to register for another sport.
REFUNDS
If a student decides not to play a particular sport after he/she has signed up, the Athletic Secretary or the Bookkeeper must be notified prior to the first game/match/meet in order for a refund to be issued.
ATHLETIC ELIGIBILITY
Scholastic eligibility, as set forth by the Douglas County Middle School Athletic Guidelines, requires that any student who participates in athletics must be eligible prior to participation.
In addition to the rules of scholastic eligibility, each athlete is expected to conduct himself/ herself according to all rules and regulations of the school. No student will be allowed to compete on the day of a truancy or while suspended from school. If an event is scheduled for a non-school day, the athlete must be in accordance with these rules on the preceding day.
All athletes must abide by the Athletic Code of Conduct, and the District Code of Conduct. All rules and regulations are considered to be in effect throughout the year. Most important are the rules on behavior and citizenship which all students are expected to follow. Any athlete(s), who in the judgment of the coach or principal are found to be conducting himself/herself in a manner which is not representative of the best interest of Douglas County will be suspended or dropped from the athletic program.
