PONDEROSA ATHLETICS
“PROUD, PRODUCTIVE, PROVEN”

Ponderosa High School offers 21 CHSAA sanctioned sports programs and
another 4 club programs. Ponderosa has a rich tradition in athletics. Over
the last 26 years, Ponderosa has won 22 State Championships and 103
League Championships in various sports. Our coaching staff has 180 years
of combined experience, 42% are teachers in the building and 58% coach at
Ponderosa, but work outside the building.

Tim Ottmann, the Athletic Director, has been at Ponderosa for 20 years. As
the former wrestling coach at Ponderosa, Tim was one of the most
successful coaches in the state of Colorado and the nation. His wrestling
team’s captured 8 state championships and 14 consecutive league
championships prior to his retirement in 2008. Tim is known around the
state as a “coach of coaches”, sharing his knowledge and success tips with
coaches at Ponderosa and throughout the state.

Ponderosa’s athletic facilities are among the finest in Colorado. Our indoor
facilities include two full-size gyms, an upper gym which serves as a
gymnastics facility and wrestling room, and a fully equipped weight room.
Our outdoor facilities include a baseball field with three separate batting
tunnels, three bullpen areas, and a brand new state of the art scoreboard. In
addition, we have two full-size soccer fields, an artificial turf football field
that can also be used for soccer and lacrosse, a six lane track, high jump,
long jump and pole vault areas, a discus and shot put ring and a softball field
with two brand new batting tunnels and bullpen areas.

Our athletes are some of the finest in the state, regularly collecting All-
League and All-State honors. Our athletes also have higher GPA’s, better
attendance and fewer discipline problems than those students who don’t
participate in athletics. Many have gotten athletic scholarships and gone
onto play sports in Division 1, 2 and 3 programs. A few have even made it
to the professional ranks!
