ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS - 85325

This course will help students understand some of the forces that influenced the development of the world's first civilizations. It will offer students a first hand account of the past through the eyes of the people whose lives were a part of the political, economic and social problems of each historical period. Content will include the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, Greece and Rome. Research and study skills will be taught and applied in this class. NCAA approved core course. CONTEMPORARY WORLD ISSUES -85745

Prerequisite: 9 th , 10 th , and 11 th grades Social Studies core classes.

This senior level course will focus on the analysis and interpretation of contemporary world issues. Students will examine current events through the themes of Power, Conflict, Justice and Technology. Debate, research, discussion, critical thinking and media analysis are all skills that will be applied during the course of the semester. Students will be required to stay current on world, national, and local issues of importance. NCAA approved core course. CCHE/HEAR approved course.

 

INTERNATIONAL ECONOMICS - 85810

Prerequisite: 9th grade core and successful completion of government and U. S. History 1865 - 1945 core 11th grade by permission ONLY.

This course will investigate the world economic scene: the distribution of resources, production, and consumption, the uneven economic development of national economies, and the major economic systems of the present world. Aspects of international trade including its effects on nations, trade policies, international currency exchange, labor migration and foreign investment will be studied. Students will also learn the use of research materials and how to classify, interpret and summarize information. A research paper is required. MEDIEVAL HISTORY - 85350

This course will trace the development of Western civilization from the fall of Rome to the Age of Exploration and Discovery. MODERN EUROPEAN HISTORY - 85375

This course will chronicle the history of Europe from l500 to present and the impact that extremist ideologies and modern industrial warfare have had on that continent. Special attention will be given to the political philosophies of Marxism-Leninism, Fascism, National Socialism and parliamentary democracy. The goals of psychology are to describe, understand and predict individual human behavior. In this course students will be introduced to the history and application of psychology research methods, sensation and perception, altered states of consciousness, sleep and dreaming, learning, development, theories of personality, and abnormal behavior. UNITED STATES ECONOMICS - 85800

Prerequisite: 9th grade core and successful completion of government and geography. 11th grade by permission ONLY.

American Economics focuses on the U.S. economic system and its interaction with other nations. In addition to studying economic concepts such as scarcity, opportunity costs, supply/demand, GDP, budget deficit; students will apply their learning to real world situations. A unit reflecting the U. S. stock market and its national/international significance will be studied. A research paper is required. UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT - 85700

Students will study types of governments, the federal Constitution as the foundation of the three branches of government (executive, legislative, judicial) and the concept of separation of powers. The content of this course includes topics in U.S. History since 1865. Content includes uction, industrialism, immigration, the emergence of big business, the labor movement, Progressive Era reforms, World War I, the Twenties, the Great Depression, the New Deal, and US involvement in World War II. This course will trace major events, which have occurred since World War II with emphasis on the political events and personalities involved. Topics covered in the course include: the Cold War, the civil rights movement, Korean and Vietnam Wars, Watergate, and contemporary issues. WORLD GEOGRAPHY – 85835

In this course students will examine the world's regions and explore the many facets of geography. The region's economy, geography, history and culture will be studied as well as issues affecting that area and its relationship with the rest of the world. By studying current domestic and world issues, students will understand the numerous dimensions of a multicultural and interconnected world. Subjects such as the environment, population, resource management, etc. will be addressed. Students will also learn the use of geographic materials and how to classify, interpret and summarize information. This course will meet all geography standards. NCAA approved core course .
