9TH and 10TH GRADE PHYSICAL EDUCATION - 75312

Semester: .5 credit

Grades: 9,10

This course will offer a variety of team and individual sports as well as lifetime skills and fitness. The components of fitness (cardiovascular, muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, and body composition) will be implemented daily. The team sports will include such sports as soccer, ultimate frisbee, softball, volleyball, basketball, floor hockey, and various general games. The individual sports will include sports such as tennis, pickleball, badminton, eclipse ball, and bowling.

 

ADVANCED DANCE - 75460

Semester: .5 credit

Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

Prerequisite: Teacher approval required - you must check with the teacher before enrolling for the class .

This course is designed for those students who have a strong studio dance background. Dance units include jazz, lyrical and funk. Students will learn more advanced elements and combinations, choreographed dance patterns and will lead warm-ups, teach dances, and choreograph their own dances.

 

ATHLETIC TRAINING/EMERGENCY FIRST AID - 75330

Semester: .5 credit

Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

Expenses/Fees: $20.00

This course will prepare students to meet emergency situations with knowledge and skill. Accident prevention, first aid care, anatomical terms of injury evaluation procedures are included. The learning and training method will be lecture, class discussion, guest speakers, films, practical skills, practice/labs and problem solving. Students will learn rescue-breathing techniques, how to seek professional help, CPR, and choking rescue methods in emergency situations.

 

BEGINNING DANCE - 75453

Semester: .5 credit

Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

This course is designed to introduce students to various dance forms. Dance units primarily include jazz, lyrical and funk. Students will be required to learn basic dance elements and choreographed dance patterns.

 

CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN HEALTH - 55305

Semester: .5 credit

Grades: 10,11,12

What's it all about? Making good decisions related to your health! You can build upon your previous health knowledge by investigating issues directly impacting your life today and in the future. These include identifying ways to resolve road rage and date abuse; learning ways to solve dating conflicts and prevent future domestic violence; delving into the impacts of substance abuse on you and others; being a healthy consumer; finding ways to promote your own personal health and safety; identifying your nutritional needs and how to meet them; developing effective communication skills; and understanding human development including sexuality (and even old age, particularly if you don't exercise and eat healthy now!). And what about public health issues? What about noninfectious diseases? What about understanding family dynamics and how they affect you? It's all there!!!! Activities include numerous dynamic guest speakers, discussions, video, and hands on projects. For students with a personal interest in their own health or a health related career this course is a must!! This course may be used for .5 PE requirement, or .5 Practical Arts, or .5 elective requirement for graduation.

HEALTHY DECISIONS - 55300

Semester: .5 credit

Grade: 9, 10

Kick off your high school career by learning how to make good choices on those critical health issues that you will face in the next 4 years and in your future! Explore everyday living aspects of nutrition and fitness; substance use and abuse; sexuality; relationships; and personal safety through practicing effective decision making skills. Learn them with your peers in a fun, fact-filled course. This course may be used for .5 PE requirement, .5 of Practical Arts credit, or .5 Elective credit for graduation.

 

INDIVIDUAL/DUAL SPORTS and FITNESS - 75310

Semester: .5 credit

Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

This course is designed for students to learn the importance of lifetime fitness. To achieve this goal, the components of fitness (cardiovascular, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility) are stressed daily in fitness routines. This course will also emphasize the enjoyment of lifetime activities through lead-up games such as badminton and pickle ball and teach many lifetime activities such as tennis, frisbee golf, and bowling.

 

SHAPE UP/FITNESS - 75320

Semester: .5 credit

Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

This course will teach how to get in shape and stay that way. Cardiovascular fitness, muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, coordination and agility will be stressed. Students will work towards personal goals through participation in the following activities: aerobics, step aerobics, weight training, circuit training, and various toning exercises. Workouts will be supplemented with classroom activities covering various fitness and health topics.

 


SPORT TRAINING - 75525

Semester: .5 credit

Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

Prerequisite : Strength and Conditioning and/or instructor's signature.

Sport Training is a more advanced weight lifting class for those who wish to push themselves. It is run at a much higher intensity than Strength and Conditioning. In the weight room it is expected that the student has a greater understanding of weight lifting techniques and therefore will be required to learn more complicated lifts. In the Mat Room students will be performing (SAQ) drills that will require maximum effort. High-level plyometrics, balance, and agility will be stressed.

 

STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING - 75350

Semester: .5 credit

Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

Strength and Conditioning is a basic weight training class. It is designed for students who want to learn about weight lifting and how to improve their speed, agility, and quickness. In the weight room, students will learn correct lifting techniques, the basics of sets vs. reps, and how to use the weight equipment properly. In the mat room, students will learn about speed, agility, and quickness (SAQ). Through a wide variety of (SAQ) drills, students will learn proper body position, coordination, and correct movement patterns. This class is hands on and active.

 

TEAM SPORTS and FITNESS - 75300

Semester: .5 credit

Grades: 11, 12

This course will stress the components of teamwork in a variety of team sport settings. Emphasis will be placed on intermediate to advanced skills, sportsmanship, strategy, and team interaction The components of fitness will be in the form of daily jogging, stretching, crunches, and pushups. Outdoor activities will include softball, soccer, touch football, volleyball, kickball, and ultimate frisbee. Indoor activities will include volleyball, basketball, floor hockey, indoor soccer, mat ball, mcwhipit, and a variety of general games.
