ALGEBRA I PART 1 - 60380

Year: 1.0 Math credit

Grades: 9

Prerequisites: Pre-Algebra: Teacher recommendation; placement exam.

 

Students study the first half of Algebra I and are expected to complete the course by taking Algebra I Part 2 the following year. Students review basic computational skills and begin working with variables to simplify algebraic expression and solve first-degree equations. Students study real numbers, polynomials, and graphing. Geometry topics of perimeter, area, volume and surface area are continued. Organizational and study skills are emphasized. Homework required. NCAA approved core course. CCHE/HEAR approved course. 0.5 credits per year.

 

ALGEBRA I PART 2 - 60385

Year: 1.0 Math credit

Grades: 10

Prerequisites: Algebra I Part 1; teacher recommendation.

Expenses: Scientific, not graphing, calculators will be used throughout the course.

 

Students study the second half of Algebra I, continuing their work with variables, real numbers, first and second degree equations and inequalities, factoring, polynomials, radicals, and graphing. NCAA approved core course. CCHE/HEAR approved course. 0.5 credits per year.

 

ALGEBRA I - 60400

Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

Prerequisite: Pre-Algebra grade of C or better and teacher recommendation and placement exam

This course covers the use of variables, real numbers, first and second-degree equations, factoring, polynomials, solving equations with one and two unknowns, radicals, and algebraic and graphic applications. Organizational and study skills are taught; therefore, a notebook and study materials are required. Daily homework is required. NCAA approved core course. CCHE/HEAR approved course.

 

ALGEBRA II - 60510

Year: 1.0 Math credit

Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

Prerequisite: Algebra I with at least a grade of C and placement exam

Expenses: Graphing calculator recommended.

 

This course studies algebraic and graphic approaches to linear and quadratic equations and functions as well as rational, exponential and logarithmic functions and their graphs. All of these concepts are applied to "real world" problems. Students are asked to keep the notebook from Algebra I to be used to continue the building of study skills. Daily homework is required. NCAA approved core course. CCHE/HEAR approved course.

 

ALGEBRA II HONORS - 60550

Year : 1.0 Math credit

Grade: 9

Prerequisite: Completion of Algebra I (Honors) with minimum grade of B and teacher recommendation and placement exam.

Expenses: Graphing calculator recommended.

 

This is a rigorous course designed for students interested in more advanced math classes. Topics include linear, quadratic, exponential, logarithmic, rational, irrational and higher degree functions, vectors, complex numbers, sequences and series. Problem solving involving the use of many math concepts is stressed as well as use of a graphing calculator

 

AP CALCULUS AB - 60625 (a weighted class)

Year: 1.0 Math credit

Grades: 11, 12

Prerequisite: Trigonometry/ Pre-Calculus or College Algebra/Trig with at least a C average in these courses/Teacher recommendation.

Expenses: Students must provide a graphing calculator from an approved list.

 

This course follows the College Board AB level Calculus syllabus. Topics covered include limits, differentiation, integration, and problem solving involving calculus concepts. This course is the equivalent of a one-semester college calculus course. If the student chooses to take the AP exam in May, that fee will be assessed. Daily homework is required. NCAA approved core course . CCHE/HEAR approved course.

 

AP CALCULUS BC - 60650 (a weighted class)

Year: 1.0 Math credit

Grades: 12

Prerequisite: Trigonometry/ Pre-Calculus/Calculus A with a math GPA of 3.5 or higher/Teacher recommendation.

Expenses: Students must provide a graphing calculator from an approved list.

 

There is a one semester calculus prerequisite for this course. This comes in Calculus A during the second semester of the preceding year. Instruction in this course follows the College Board BC level Calculus syllabus. Major topics covered include differentiation, integration, sequence and series, and problem solving involving calculus concepts. This course is the equivalent of a two-semester college calculus sequence. If the student chooses to take the AP exam in May, that fee will be assessed. Daily homework is required. AP STATISTICS (a weighted class) - 60801

Year: 1.0 Math credit

Grades: 11,12

Prerequisite: Algebra II Honors or College Algebra.

Expenses: Graphing calculator required.

 

This course will prepare you to take the AP Statistics exam. Topics include: Exploratory Data Analysis, Probability Distributions, Hypothesis Testing, Analysis of Variance, Regression, and Experimental Design. NCAA approved core course. CCHE/HEAR approved course.

APPLIED GEOMETRY - 60525

Semester: 0.5 Math credit

Grades: 10,11,12

Prerequisite: Successful completion Algebra I or equivalent

Standards and Checkpoints to be met: Mathematics 2.1, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 5.1, 5.3, 5.5, 6.3

 

The focus of this course is geometric foundations, measurement, and applications. Students taking this course will use a variety of tools and techniques to communicate the reasoning involved in solving problems. CCHE/HEAR approved course.

 

COLLEGE ALGEBRA - 60570

Year : 1.0 Math credit

Grades : 11 and 12

Prerequisite: Algebra II, Geometry

Corequisite: Trigonometry (either semester, but 2 nd semester is suggested)

Expenses: Graphing calculator recommended. Optional registration for University of Colorado credit.

 

Homework is required. This course, for college bound students, covers algebraic function and their graphs. The course is taken in conjunction with one semester of Trigonometry. Trigonometry is required for admission into engineering colleges. NCAA approved core course . CCHE/HEAR approved course.

 

COLLEGE MATHEMATICS - 60750 (Fall Only)

Semester: 0.5 Math credit

Grades: 11, 12

Prerequisite: Algebra II; Recommended for seniors only.

Expenses: Graphing calculator recommended.

 

This course is designed for college bound students interested in business, social sciences and communications. Graphing technology will be used to solve real problems from these fields. The question, "When are we ever going to use this?" will be answered. Three semester hours of college credit available through CU-Denver. NCAA approved core course. CCHE/HEAR approved course.

 

DATA AND DECISIONS - 60305

Grades: 12

Prerequisite: Minimum Algebra I.

 

What is the chance that an outstanding high school athlete will play professional sports? What is the probability that a successful high school student will become C.E.O. of a large corporation? We are surrounded daily by statistical claims and misleading advertising. In this introductory course, students will use a hands-on approach to analyze these claims for false conclusions and distortions. They will design experiments, collect, organize, and display data and draw conclusions from that data.

 

GEOMETRY - 60475

Year: 1.0 Math credit

Grades: 10, 11, 12

Prerequisite: Algebra I and II with a grade of C or better and Teacher recommendation.

This course is concerned with spatial relationships of two and three-dimensional figures. It is the study of mathematics by logical deduction, the construction of geometric figures, and applications to problem solving. Students will also continue the study of advanced algebra techniques.

GEOMETRY HONORS - 60450

Prerequisite: Algebra II Honors with at least a grade of B. Teacher recommendation.

This course covers not only the Geometry course but also topics from College Algebra and Trigonometry. This course is the prerequisite to Pre Calculus/Calculus A. Daily homework is required. NCAA approved core course . CCHE/HEAR approved course.

 

MATHEMATICS OF MONEY - 60915

Semester: 0.5 Math credit

Grades: 12

Prerequisite: Algebra I.

 

This course will assist the graduating high school student in the acquiring, handling, spending of money, and sharpen the mathematical skills needed to manage finances. Students will become informed consumers and capable money managers, and will use a wide variety of technological capabilities to assist them. Topics include wages, deductions, checking/savings accounts, interest, credit/credit cards, investments, insurance, retirement planning, taxes, cars/car expenses, housing costs (renting apartments and buying a house), budgets, financial planning and budgets. Resources utilized in this course are: calculators, MS Excel, Quicken, Wall Street Journal and Investor's Business Daily.

 

MATH TUTOR - 40450

Prerequisite: Algebra II

 

Must have had a grade of A or B in Algebra II and recommendation from a Math teacher is required.

Students enrolled in this class will be required to help students in Algebra I and Algebra II classes. This course will count toward elective graduation credit .

 

PRE-CALCULUS/CALCULUS A - 60610/60674

Year: 1.0 Math credit

Grades: 10,11,12

Prerequisite: Honors Geometry, Algebra II Honors, with a B average or higher.

Corequisite: Trigonometry (60600) must be taken first semester

Expenses: Students must provide a graphing calculator from an approved list.

 

The course emphasizes functions, graphing and use of the graphing calculator. Calculus begins the second semester. Daily homework is required.

PROBABILITY AND STATISTICS - 60775 (Spring Only)

Prerequisite: Algebra II

Statistics is the number one decision-making tool in the world. It is used in all the physical and social sciences, as well as business, medicine and education. The primary focus of this course is experimental design and interpretation of data, using examples from many fields of study. NCAA approved core course . CCHE/HEAR approved course.

 

SUPPLEMENTAL MATH LAB

This class is designed for Algebra I students who have gaps in their mathematics skills and could benefit by additional practice and peer tutoring to support them in their regular Algebra I class.
