Classes: Spanish 2, 3, AP Short Summary : A Denver native and graduate of East High School , Mr. Guinn comes from a family of teachers. He learned Spanish while serving a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Argentina , and loved learning the Spanish language and culture there. After graduating, he spent two years substituting at various schools around the Denver area until he taught at Ponderosa for one semester in 1992, and then returned full time in 1994. Mr. Guinn enjoys cycling, golf, skiing, traveling, playing the piano, and singing. He is also the sponsor of the Spanish National Honor Society. Education : BA in Spanish from Colorado State University , Diploma in Spanish as a second language from Universidad de Salamanca Classes : Spanish 2 and 3 Short Summary : Ms. Johnson is a Colorado native. She grew up in Fort Collins and graduated high school from Campion Academy . She learned Spanish during college while studying in Spain , where she fell in love with the Spanish language and culture. After graduating she taught English in South Korea for a year, then returned to CSU to get her teaching certification. She taught middle school in Colorado Springs for two years before coming to Ponderosa in 2004. Ms. Johnson enjoys traveling, fishing, hiking, rollerblading, skiing, and snowboarding Education :

Classes : Spanish 1 and 2 Hola, I'm Sra. Mock. It is a pleasure to be your Spanish teacher. I'm from Puerto Rico and my maiden name is Maria Fancisca Correa Becker. I've been a bilingual teacher in Arizona and also a Spanish substitute teacher in New York . I've traveled to Italy , Germany , Israel , France and Spain . I've lived in many states and my favorite one is Colorado . I have three sons: Michael and Matthew graduated from PHS and are in college. Martin is currently attending PHS. I met my husband, Mike, in Puerto Rico . I like to sing and whistle. Sometime I invent songs for our Spanish class. Soon you'll see! I hope you enjoy your year learning Spanish. Cheryl Nicola has degrees in English and French from the University of Northern Iowa . She has taught both subjects for the past 31 years-most recently, she has been teaching French. In Grand Forks , ND she taught French 1-5 for 12 years; previous to that, she taught both French and English 9-12. She is now teaching French 1 and 2 and English 9. She loves the atmosphere, the staff and students of Ponderosa and feels that she has come to a place that not only expects the best from staff and students, but also provides needing support and encouragement. She and her husband Glen have a son and daughter-in-law in Aurora and three grandchildren: Gaby-3, Alex and Andrew-2. Yes this is originall why they moved to Colorado , but wonder why they didn't do it much earlier!! They have a daughter and her husband who live and work in Mannheim , Germany . They will probably be settling in this area upon their return. Education : BA in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Spanish from the University of Northern Colorado Classes : Spanish 2 and 3 I graduated from Ponderosa High School ! I went from Ponderosa to Concordia Lutheran College in Austin , Texas where I played volleyball. After a year I was homesick and injured and decided to come to University of Northern Colorado . This is where I graduated with a BA in Secondary Education with emphasis in Spanish. I grew up in Parker, Colorado and when I had opportunities to play volleyball in a state away from home, I decided to accept it. I really enjoyed Austin , Texas and the experience opened my eyes to a whole different world I didn't know exsisted. I have always wanted to be a teacher and never even thought about doing something different. I had grown up thinking I would teach English but living inn Austin exposed me to a different culture. That was when I decided I wanted to teach Spanish. During my student teaching I lived at home with my parents and student taught at Ponderosa. When I was ready to teach on my own I had the opportunity to stay and Ponderosa, I've been here ever since! Dawna Searcy graduated from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville , TN. She began teaching Spanish in Tennessee , and moved to Colorado in 2004. She has been a teacher for nearly 5 years. Mrs. Searcy is currently getting a Master's Degree in Counseling. Mrs. Searcy is a certified scuba diver and in her hobbies include scrap booking, reading, traveling, and playing with her two cats.
Education : BA and MA in Spanish from University of Northern Colorado Classes : Has taught Spanish 1-4 at Ponderosa since 1990. Mrs. Stanton is a Colorado native and graduated from Loveland High School . She was a Rotary exchange student to Barcelona , Spain and also traveled to the Dominican Republic and as an Amigos de las Americas volunteer. In addition, she has visited Mexico , Costa Rica , Panama , Belize , and Columbia . Mrs. Stanton is the co-sponsor of the Spanish National Honor Society Hi!! My name is Tina Stroman and I am delighted to teach Spanish here at Ponderosa High School . I grew up in Pueblo , Colorado and graduated from Pueblo South High School . I attended Colorado State University where I received a degree in Spanish Education. I completed my student teaching at Fort Collins High School and taught Spanish there for one year. I then moved to Denver and began teaching in Douglas County School District in 1993. I began my career in Douglas County at Parker Vista Middle School (present day Sierra). I then participated in the opening of Sagewood Middle School where I taught Spanish until 2006. I am very excited to be part of the PHS Foreign Language team!! In 1997, I completed my Masters Degree from the University of Phoenix , and I most enjoy spending time with my wonderful family, traveling, and reading. Education: B.A. in German & English from University of Colorado, Boulder and an Classes: German 2 Short Summary: A Colorado native and graduate of Columbine High School, Frau Bergren is the daughter of a German immigrant and loves teaching German. She acquired quite a bit of German in Frankfurt, Germany from friends and family that didn't speak English, but had to learn the language at school. She lived and studied in Regensburg (Bavaria) for two years during her college studies and was teaching at the University of Denver before coming to Ponderosa. Frau Bergren hopes to make the transition to “Señora Bergren” this coming Spring as she gathers enough college credit to be considered qualified to teach Spanish and teach both German and Spanish at Ponderosa. Frau Bergren teaches “Family Yoga” at a Pilates studio in Denver and enjoys hiking and spending time with her husband, two children, two dogs and cat.
Education: University of Northern Colorado. Degrees in German and Elementary Education. University of California , Santa Barbara . Masters in Germanic Languages and Literature. Classes: German I, III, IV and AP Guten Tag! I am a native of Colorado and graduated from Wheat Ridge High School. I attended the University of Northern Colorado and participated in Study Abroad to Bayreuth, Germany. I began teaching in Elizabeth, Colorado in 1985 and spent 22 years in the district teaching all levels from middle school exploratory through Advanced Placement German. During the 1987-1988 school year, I received a Fulbright Scholarship and I lived in Darmstadt , Germany and was a foreign language assistant at the Eleonorenschule. Upon my return, I received my Masters degree and I also implemented an exchange Program in Darmstadt. I have traveled with over 100 students and spent around 9 months of total time traveling with students abroad. I am very excited to be here at PHS and look forward to working with everyone in the school and the community.
