Family and Consumer Sciences is an exciting elective department offering credits in both practical and elective categories. We specialize in meeting the students' current needs and preparing them for the future in personal and professional skills. Through our classes students can pursue in-depth skill advancement in several career areas. These areas include: Culinary Arts, Child Development (Teacher Cadet Honors and Early Childhood Professions Education), and Interior Design. Many of these programs include internship components but we also offer a Career Internship class for seniors which can be in any professional career area. If a student needs to explore his/her aptitudes, interests and skills, there is a Career Pathways course to help them make solid career decisions. In the personal category there are various fashion, food and nutrition based classes, health courses at different levels, as well as a personal finance course to aid students in their daily lives and to lay a solid foundation for their future. Our department strives for excellence, through hands-on active learning.

To broaden the learning of our students, we have 3 student organizations. Our national and state based Family Career and Community Leaders of America organization has two co-curricular divisions. The occupational portion is for students in the career based classes while the consumer portion focuses on personal skills. We have a state competition every spring in which PHS has had numerous state champions in skills based competitions. We also have the Future Educators of America club which works closely with our Honors Teacher Cadet and Early Childhood Professions Education programs. Students enjoy participating in these active groups while furthering their education at the same time. Our focuses are leadership, service, cooperation, and responsibility.
