Points of Pride

Academics:
Advanced Placement Program: We currently offer over 20 Advanced Placement courses within all core content areas. Some courses offered include Literature & Composition, Studio Art, Calculus, Spanish, and French. Over 500 students are currently enrolled in our AP courses with % scoring a 3 or better.

National Merit Program: From the Class of 2008, we have 3 students who are National Merit Scholarship finalists.

Academic State Championship: This year, this esteemed accomplishment was awarded to the Girls’ Field Hockey team, Boys’ Track, and Girl’s Golf for having 57 athletes with a 4.0 GPA or better and a combined overall team GPA of 3.45.

Our Global Science class conducted a “green” campaign and was awarded $5000 by the district for saving energy by reminding teachers and students to turn off lights and computers when not in use.

Teachers: We have the highest caliber of teachers. Over 90% of our teachers teach in the subject area which they have their primary degree in, and over 60% of our faculty has a Master’s degree or higher. Our DECA teacher, Sheri Dorthworth-Bryant,  is the 2007 Apple Award Winner.

Academically, faculty, staff, students, parents, and community have embraced the Critical Thinking Model to help students achieve their maximum potential in their future endeavors to become productive and responsible citizens once they graduate from Mountain Vista High School.
