Using Technology in the Secondary Classroom

DESCRIPTION:In this skillblock, classroom instructors (7-12) will gain a knowledge base to successfully integrate technology into the secondary curriculum and, as a result of this integration, be able to show a gain in student productivity. Participants will complete a fully integrated, content and standards based, unit of study demonstrating educational uses of technology that help facilitate school improvement (NETS: National Educational Technology Standards).
The Technology Integration Framework will serve as the model for participants to use in developing their classroom technology integration unit. Each participant will examine examples and sources of best practice in classroom technology instruction and integration. Units of study and artifacts will utilize technology that help students demonstrate productivity gains and practice learning skills in the area of higher order thinking and communication.
LEARNER OBJECTIVES:
This course will address improved instruction in technology integration.
- Plan and include technology integration into instruction.
- Learn management strategies for becoming a facilitator of technology instruction.
- Use technology in a “just in time” model aligned to appropriate tasks and projects which will also allow for equitable use by all students.
- Focus instruction on project based model, with an emphasis on the practice of learning skills in the area of higher order thinking and communication.
