First Grade: Dinosaurs! The 1st grade students worked on two clay projects. The first was a pinched dinosaur. The students looked through books containing dinosaurs to pick one they wanted to create. They then took a ball of clay and pinched it into a dinosaur. The second project dealt with texture. First, the clay was rolled flat into a slab. Second, the students were asked to step, with one shoe, onto the clay. The clay then showed the texture of the bottom of their shoe. The third step was to find the most interesting part of the shoe imprint and trim it out. The students were able to glaze these clay imprints and a metal pin was glued on the back so that it could be worn on clothing.
