Welcome
to the 2007-08 school year! The graduating class of 2020 has walked
through our doors with the smiles that only beginning kindergarteners
can bless us with!
This year is a promising one. We are in our second year of Response to
Intervention (RTI) and LIFT (Literacy Instructional Framework for Teaching),
and are entering our first year of PBS (Positive Behavior Support). We’re
also acclimating to our new Horizontal Housing.
If this sounds like a list of gobbledy-gook, you might be interested in
another new “program” that’s beginning for the purpose
of addressing a need I’ve been aware of for some time. As hard as
I try to put education-ese into plain English for our parent community
in newsletters and Instructional Insights and flyers in Thursday Folders,
those publications are only one-way communications. There is not the chance
to answer very legitimate questions about what we do and why, and to clarify
written language. And as much as I encourage you to call, email, and come
in, I do understand that these requests necessitate you coming to me. So
now I will be coming to you.
This year I will be scheduling neighborhood “Come as you are” Coffees
in homes throughout our attendance area so I can talk with you face to
face, talk about your questions, clarify rumors that may be in the air,
and give some basic information about how schools in Douglas County do
business on a day-to-day basis.
I will be scheduling these Coffees on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, and
have tentatively scheduled the first three for August 15, 22, and 28. Watch
Thursday Folders in the near future for more specific information about
locations and times.
I am truly looking forward to these dialogues to improve communication
between home and school!

Student
Council News
Another Successful Fundraiser!
The 2006-2007 Student Council would like to thank all the students and families
who supported our Spring Earth Fair. With your help, we were able to donate $450.00
to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Colorado. You should be proud that with your
generosity, we were able to help make wishes come true.
Readers are encouraged to submit items for this column. Often we at school
do not know the accomplishments of students outside school. Please include
your phone number so we can reach you if we need more information.

INFORMATION
BOARD
This
is a current listing of all items that can
be found on our Information Board, which is
located just outside the Music Room. The listing
we are providing will give all parents an opportunity
to see what is available, and they can have
their student pick up any of the items from
themain office, or parents can call our office
to “order” items that can then
be sent home with their student .
