In
this issue of the Chronicle, you will find a page called “Instructional
Insights”. It is the first in a series of articles that are being
developed to provide our parent community with information about how
we do the work of instructing your children.
As you will read, this year holds much promise with a new law which
potentially can bring additional instructional resources to all students.
In the past, there was a complicated process that had to be followed for
a student to receive help toward performing at grade level, or being challenged
to perform at an above-grade level. The new law opens up that process so
that learning specialists all along the continuum (from service for students
with severe learning problems through those who are highly gifted, and
all student needs in between) can work with any child to address any need.
Now, this won’t happen overnight. There are many aspects to building
a system to accomplish such a huge change. The Coyote Creek staff worked
throughout the last school year to develop a system that will help accomplish
what the new law is targeting. This year we will begin using that system,
looking for any “bugs” that might pop up, and refining as we
go. But the potential for service to all students is great, and we are
eager to see the results.
So if you hear some new “education-ese” being spoken by your
child’s teacher, like “RTI” or “Pyramid of Interventions”,
you can rest assured that the new system is being used to meet your child’s
needs. Upcoming issues of “Instructional Insights” will provide
definitions and explanations of these new terms in English!
You’ll notice that the “Instructional Insights” page
is dated July 27—that is the date it was first sent home in Thursday
Folders. We feel that this message and information is so important for
you to have that we’ll be providing each issue twice—in one
week’s Thursday Folders, then repeating it in the next Chronicle.
Here’s to a year of new discoveries and continually improving service
to our students!

Readers are encouraged to submit items for this column. Often we at school
do not know the accomplishments of students outside school. Please include
your phone number so we can reach you if we need more information.

INFORMATION
BOARD
This
is a current listing of all items that can
be found on our Information Board, which is
located just outside the Music Room. The listing
we are providing will give all parents an opportunity
to see what is available, and they can have
their student pick up any of the items from
themain office, or parents can call our office
to “order” items that can then
be sent home with their student .
