information The new carpet is installed! What a difference it makes—no more walking on thinly covered concrete, or tripping in the ripples under our feet, or being in a building where the old carpet just could not be adequately cleaned. On the first day back after Winter Break, we found ourselves having to become accustomed to having padded carpet to walk on—have to pick up our feet when we walk, now!

The amount of work that had to take place in two weeks was amazing. EVERYTHING in the building was packed up and moved into the gym; the library was also dismantled and loaded onto a moving van. Then the old carpet was pulled up and removed, the new carpet was installed, and everything was brought back into the building. Given the amount of “stuff” that had to be moved and the sheer amount of carpet that was removed and replaced, it is impressive that we were able to greet students on January 3, ready to jump back into instruction as normal.

We also received a bonus during this process. Our Building Engineer, Jon Beeman, has been with us since last spring, and he has been working hard to make sure that Coyote Creek is the cleanest and best-maintained in the district. During Winter Break he worked closely with the movers and carpet installers, and coordinated our contracted cleaning service (normally cleaning our building at night) to work during the day during that time. Consequently, we have newly painted brick walls, every single light fixture has been cleaned and brought into good repair, every air vent and filter has been cleaned, every door jam and window frame has been painted. It was like walking into a new building after Winter Break. A huge THANK YOU goes to Jon for his vision and hard work and quality efforts.

On another note, this is January and that means in a few weeks CSAP season will start. Please watch for information from your children’s teachers in grades three through six, giving you information about the testing schedule for those particular classes. We would ask that you honor those times by not expecting to pull your children out of class during those times. Once a testing session has begun, we make every effort to make sure the session is not interrupted. Classroom volunteers, your schedules may be changing to accommodate our testing schedule, also.

Here’s to a great New Year to all in our school community!

kidskornerThe following students from Coyote Creek completed the fall reading program at the Highlands Ranch Library. In order to complete this program they were asked to read for twelve hours over eight weeks and keep track of the hours on their reading logs. We are proud of these students and want to acknowledge their success. The next program begins in February.
