informationI have another kindergarten story for you....

A couple of weeks ago I was holding the door open for one of the kindergarten classes, when a young man in the class stopped right on the threshold, looked up at me with a huge smile and said, "Well, good morning my wonderful Principal!"

Now, what was remarkable to me about that little scenario was not that the boy said I was wonderful. His statement, and the spirit that was evident on his face and in the movements of his little body, radiated his 5-year-old philosophy: life is wonderful. Life is a joyful adventure. That was what was remarkable.

It was remarkable because, as adults, most of us have forgotten about the joy in life. We're so caught up in our responsibilities to career and family and society and whatever else we have on our "plates", that we have forgotten what it feels like to just appreciate and enjoy the blessings that surround us.

That's one reason I love my job. I get to be surrounded by children who provide daily reminders of what perfect joy is like. When you hear a child break out in spontaneous laughter, what do you feel? Pure joy. When you watch your child sleeping, what do you feel? Pure joy. When you are the target of a child's smile, what do you feel? Pure joy.

So here's to the challenge of remembering to see life through a child's eyes—to choose to wake up in the morning expecting to experience a joyful adventure. And to choose to assist someone else in finding joy in their day

questions markQ. I'm hearing rumors about a new parking lot. What's up?
A. In an attempt to address the dangerous traffic situation around the school, we are working on a plan to reconfigure the parking lot so the drop off/pick up activity can be brought in from the streets. This entails getting bids from a company to survey traffic patterns and develop a proposal of some ways to reconfigure the parking lot to address those traffic patterns, and then to actually make those changes. This seems like a slow process, but at least we now have a definite direction that can be supported by the district. The funds necessary to complete this project will be raised largely by our PTA, who sees this project as a necessary step in keeping our children safe before and after school.
