After
the last issue of The Chronicle, I received an anonymous response asking,
among other things, my personal goals for Coyote Creek for the next year
and next three years. I am pleased to address this request, and am hoping
that the writer will contact me so I can address his/her other concerns.
One goal I have for myself, personally, and for every group of students
I’ve taught or schools in which I have been an administrator, is
simple—continuous progress. My belief is that we can always do better
than we’re doing today, whether in academics or in our personal
lives. This goal is an ongoing one, unlimited by time frames. It is a
daily goal.
Another ongoing goal embodies my reason for being an administrator—to
create an environment that allows all to accomplish that continuous progress.
This touches student achievement, effective instruction, and personal growth—which
includes preparing our students for the real world outside the schoolhouse
walls. At Coyote Creek we attempt to assist students in learning skills
that will help support their growth of all kinds; this sometimes comes
in the form of an expectation that they will accept responsibility for
their actions, or learning to be resilient in the face of change, or how
to deal with the conflict that they will inevitably face at some time.
Such skills will directly affect their continuous progress and future success—academic
and otherwise.
Formal school goals are outlined in our School Improvement Plan, which
was summarized in our Annual Report. This was included with the School
Accountability Report which was recently mailed to all parents. These goals
quantify the rate of continuous progress we have targeted in several areas.
One of the points made in this Annual Report was that Coyote Creek’s
rating has always been “High”. This rating is composed of
a range of scores, and our overall score has significantly increased
every
year this Report has been in existence. This is evidence that we are
taking seriously our responsibility to continually improve instruction
and all
other factors that affect student achievement. It is evidence that the
goals stated above are being addressed successfully. And we are very
proud of that.

Volunteer of the Month
Our Volunteer of the Month for January is Lonni Hunt. Lonni is a kindergarten
mom whose son, Jacob, is in Mrs. Cunningham's D Track class. Lonni is a great
organizer. She organized the Holidays Around the World event for Mrs. Cunningham's
class as well as the other big events. Apparently, Lonni's skills make the
events huge successes! It's great having volunteers willing to jump right
in and take up duties that require lots of time. Thanks, Lonni, for doing
that so well. We hope you can continue to devote your extra time to our school
community. Without volunteers like Lonni, we certainly would be short some
wonderful classroom events. Again, thank you, Lonni, for all that you do
everyday!

Lost & Found
Check our Lost and Found barrels near Door #4 (by the cafeteria). There are
many lunch boxes and miscellaneous coats and jackets to be found there! Girl
Scout Troop 1676 will be emptying the contents for donation to a local charity
the week of February 23rd.

Supplement
We have been working on a strategy to get information about local
activities and opportunities to Coyote Creek families, while
abiding by the
school district’s policy about conflict of interest, which results in
not advertising for specific groups or businesses. We think we’ve
got an effective plan!
In future issues of The Chronicle, you will find a current listing
of all items that can be found on our Information Board, which
is located just
outside the Music Room. While this is handy for those who are able
to be in the school frequently, we know that there are parents
whose
schedules
just do not allow them to be here often. The listing we will be providing
will give all parents an opportunity to see what is available, and
they can have their student pick up any of the items from the
main office,
or parents can call our office (303-387-6175) to “order” items
that can then be sent home with their student.
So here is the first list. We sincerely hope our plan will help families
and students find local activities more easily.
