Lots of Snow in Morgedal

By: Nicole Jordan

Do you and your family want to get out of Colorado for the holiday break, but don’t want to leave the snow? Then Morgedal (Mor-ga-dal) is the right place for you!

Norway-A Winter Paradise

Morgedal is a small village in the county of Telemark in southern Norway.  Norwegians claim they are born with skis on their feet. Winter in Norway is a paradise for skiers and snow lovers!  This small village’s cross-country ski trails are flooded with light after dark for more late skiing fun.

Something for Everyone

They call Morgedal the “cradle of skiing.” However, skiing does not necessarily have to be at the top of your to-do list. There is something for everyone in Morgedal including dogsledding, sleigh rides, and snow soccer.

Telemark Skiing

Skiing became a very popular activity when people started using better skis and other things.  The style of Telemark’s equipment (used by all of the skiers that live and visit in this valley) helps people discover cool new tricks!  This place became so popular they made skiing a sport.

Olympic History

Because Morgedal has had such an important part in the history of skiing, it has been chosen as the place for lighting the Olympic Torch three times.  Morgedal is also the birthplace of other famous skiers.  The following Olympic skiers have been to Morgedal: Mikkel and Torjus Hemmestveit, Svein Sollid, Jon Hauge and Olav Biaaland!

For over fifty years people from all over the Earth have traveled to Morgedal to SKI!  The snow is just so thick and creamy.  So beautifully white.  Have FUN!
