A Snow Day At Home

By: Devin Hartwig

Are you looking for something to do on your snow day at home? Well here are some cool ideas!

Snow Engineering

A great idea is to build a snow fort, castle, or anything that is made of snow. You can bring the snow in by the buckets. Don’t forget to pack the snow on your snow location and make lots of snowballs! When you have your fort, you can have snowball fights or just hang out to freeze with your friends.

Let There Be Lights

The last winter idea is to have fun putting up bright colorful lights all over the outside and inside of your house and maybe even in your room. Sit back and watch your house sparkle in the night.

Your Own Personal Ice Rink

Here’s a fun and crazy idea. How about building your own ice rink in your backyard? First find or use some of your dad’s (don’t forget to ask first) 2’ x 4’ wooden boards. Next, put them up so they build a box that is on flat ground (make sure they stand on the two inch side.) After that, put a tarp or two layers of plastic on the ground inside the box. The plastic needs to cover the edges of the wood. Try to get all the wrinkles out because if you don’t when you are skating the wrinkles will stick out and you will FALL DOWN AND GET HURT. That would be bad. The next step is to fill, what is soon to be an ice rink, with two inches of water. The last and final step is to wait for a “cold fingers and toes frozen morning” so the water can freeze all the way through. To check if it is frozen, push gently on the ice. If water comes up over the ice or if some ice breaks, then it’s not frozen well enough. Patience. It will be worth the wait. Enjoy!
