Robot: a machine that resembles a human and does mechanical, routine tasks on command. Robots are becoming a big craze in science. Many scientists have created robots that have become revolutionary in this field of science, such as these four new robots created by Wow Wee: Flytech Dragonfly: This robot is a radio-controlled flying robot. It has the appearance of a dragonfly. Like the dragonfly, it rapidly flaps its wings. This astonishing machine is lightweight and crash resistant. Wow Wee Alive Elvis: This machine is the hound dog singing Elvis Presley. There are two ways that this robot responds. There is the autonomous mode where it will randomly make a comment. There is also the mode where you can use a microphone-looking remote to sing along with Elvis. All you have to do is have the music from an external source. Roboboa: This robot looks like a snake and moves around with sensors on the bottom allowing it to “slither.” This astounding snake robot has three modes: aware, explore, and party. The aware mode is where it can track and respond to objects in its way. The explore mode is where Roboboa (like other Wow Wee creations) interacts and responds to what it encounters. Finally, the robot has a party mode which comes into action when you plug your iPod into it. The robot starts to dance to the beat of the groove. Robopanda: This breathtaking contraption is geared towards toddlers and young consumers by interacting in a safe way. It can play video games, tell stories, and have intriguing conversations. It can move by using special sound and touch sensors. Another mind-boggling robot is built by Honda. There are only two in the world, one in Disneyland in California and one in Disneyland in Japan. These two robots are touring the world, "droppin’ jaws from coast to coast." This machine’s name is ASIMO, which actually is an acronym. (An acronym is a word formed from the initial letters of other words). ASIMO stands for Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility. ASIMO is the most advanced robot in step mobility. There are many things that ASIMO can do: walking up stairs, running, running in a circle, playing soccer, side step continually (in a straight line or curved), balance on one foot, adjust to push or pull, dance, carry out and understand commands from human voices, and walk forward and backwards. Another amazing thing about ASIMO is that it can help senior citizens do things that they can’t, such as helping a senior to a wheel chair, take the correct medications at the correct time, and be of any other assistance. Honda creators also think that ASIMO will be able to do tasks that are dangerous for humans, such as fighting fires or even going into a gas filled area to fix a leak. All the robots in this century are going to be phenomenal! |
