School can be a lot to handle, just on its own. Tests, homework, and projects are a lot to think about. But that’s not all. Sometimes students face a lot of social issues that can be stressful. Here are some of the issues kids might deal with at school and tips to help handle and solve them. Bullying Bullying is when people are threatened, called names, or hurt. Bullying is wrong because it can hurt people inside and out. Many people are victims of bullying. Say It Straight (you might know it as S.I.S.) is a great program that teaches students how to deal with bullying problems. A good way to stop the bully is to talk to the bully and tell him/her that you don’t like what they are doing to you. Another way to stop bullying is to go to your teacher, tell a parent, or at least talk to someone you know that can help you. When talking with your parents, ask them if they were ever bullied and how they handled it. Parents, teach your kids the ways you got the bully to stop, only if you used a good strategy to make the bully leave you alone. After being given an assignment, plan out your time wisely so you can be done when you need to be. After school, maybe you could have a snack to energize yourself, but then do homework right away. Carefully do at least a majority of it, or do a little bit from each assignment. Don’t let minor problems stop you from doing your work. You won’t like the consequences when you arrive at school without your homework done. Also, some kids forget to write down their assignments and then forget to do that assignment. That’s why agendas are helpful. This web site will help you if you need more information about help with homework, http://www.school-for-champions.com/grades/getitdone.htm.

School Lunhes Many students like to eat lunch from the school’s cafeteria, but you must be careful. Not all school lunches are good for you. Some lunches are full of fat, sugar, and lots of calories. There has been a lot of talk about making school lunches more healthy. Most people think that school lunches need more fruits and vegetables. According to research, if students continue to eat a lot of school lunches and the lunches stay the same, by 2015 75% of American students will be overweight. A At Buffalo Ridge Elementary, the kitchen staff is trying to improve our school lunch. They eliminated a snack cart about a year ago and just recently started selling bottled water. Eating healthy foods and staying healthy earlier in life will reduce the chance of getting heart disease and becoming unhealthy when you are older. Tip: Only buy lunch on days that provide healthy lunches. Not every school’s lunch menu is 100% healthy, but remember that schools are trying hard to improve them.
