Technology Curriculum
 
Keyboarding (Done throughout the school year).
 
The student will demonstrate appropriate keyboarding skills. Use touch typing, correct finger position on the home keys and demonstrate improvements in accuracy and speed.
 
Terminology
 
The student will identify the following terms: Bits, Bytes, Kilobytes, Megabytes, and Gigabytes.
 
The student will identify the above terms as ascending units of measure in the transmission and storage of electronic information and will correlate computer units of measure to capacities of computer storage devices—floppy disks, hard drive, CD ROM.
 
The student will define: Database, Spreadsheet, Field/cell, Column/row, Help files, Tab, Home, and Index.
 
Fundamental Computer Skills
 
The student will use peripherals appropriately and effectively: Laser disk, VCR/TV, Digital Camera, and CD ROM.
 
The student will use grade appropriate curriculum related software.
 
The student will identify the components of a local area network (LAN server, workstation, cabling/connection and software).
 
Computer Concepts for Research
 
The student will conduct an on line search relevant to a topic being discussed.
 
The student’s use of the Internet will include creating and exploring bookmarked web sites.
 
The student will choose appropriate means for communicating ideas: Visual, Audio, and Text.
 
The student will search library materials using electronic means by: Keyword, Author, and Title.
 
The student will retrieve information while working collaboratively on curricular topics using the Internet.
 
The student will participate in a group on a short-term project from which information on a specific topic is exchanged and analyzed or electronically published.
 
Copyright/Legal Ethical Skills
 
The student will understand the legal principles and ethical conduct related to information technology:
 
Use appropriate means for crediting sources, follow copyright laws, and Use the Internet responsibly.
 
Word Processing
 
The student will demonstrate proficiency in the use of word processing: Change font, size, style, Use spell check, Edit (copy, cut, paste, select all), and Import graphics.
 
Graphics
 
Import graphics from another computer program.
 
The student will use a drawing application software to create an illustration which enriches a recently taught lesson. Use the drawing tools to create various shapes. Use color and pattern fills. Insert an object from another program. Print the illustration.
 
Multimedia
 
The student will create a visually appealing presentation using the appropriate tools and software:
 
Video camera, digital camera, scanner, and presentation software.
 
Spreadsheets
 
The student will create a simple spreadsheet using figures such as student weekly expenditures or quantity of various food groups eaten in a week. The student will be able to add columns using formulas.
